On March 4, the delegation led by Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, met with Silviu Veksler, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities.
President Veksler provided insights into the history and culture of the Jewish community in Romania. He positively assessed the active participation of Jewish communities in public life in Azerbaijan and their ability to thrive in a tolerant environment free from antisemitism. He emphasized the importance of promoting Azerbaijan’s unique model of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Chairman Mammadov discussed the measures implemented in Azerbaijan under President Ilham Aliyev's leadership to strengthen tolerance and promote interfaith and intercultural dialogue. He emphasized that, like other religious denominations, the Jewish community in Azerbaijan has extensive opportunities to preserve and develop their traditions, language, and culture. Currently, eight Jewish religious communities are officially registered in Azerbaijan, with seven operational synagogues, in addition to Jewish schools and kindergartens functioning in the country.
Following the meeting, which was also attended by Gudsi Osmanov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Romania, the members of the delegation visited a Jewish synagogue in Bucharest.
