On 11 March, an iftar ceremony was organized in Igdır jointly by the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the affiliated Foundation for the Promotion of Spiritual Values, and Igdır Governorship.

The event was attended by officials from the relevant agencies of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, members of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, representatives of non-governmental organizations, leadership of Igdır University, diplomatic mission representatives, local religious figures, and community members.

The ceremony began with a recitation of the Qur’an by Jalal Jafarli, a student of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology.

Canturk Alagoz, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, highlighted the high-level political, economic, cultural, and other bilateral relations between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of developing cooperation in the preservation and proper promotion of national and spiritual values. He expressed confidence that the fraternal relations between the countries will continue and thanked the organizers of the iftar.

Ercan Turan, Igdır Governor, noted that the exemplary Türkiye–Azerbaijan brotherhood grows stronger each day. Emphasizing the importance of solidarity, friendship, and benevolence, he expressed his satisfaction that the iftar was being held in Igdır.

Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, highlighted the significance of the holy month of Ramadan for the entire Islamic world and spoke about the longstanding friendship between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, reflecting the calls of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev — “One nation, two states”—and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk—“Azerbaijan’s joy is our joy; its sorrow is our sorrow.” He emphasized that gathering in a spirit of mutual respect and affection at the iftar table exemplifies the unbreakable bonds of brotherhood between the countries and peoples.

He also noted that in a time when the world is shaken by wars and conflicts, the Islamic world needs solidarity, unity, and mutual understanding more than ever. He recalled that Azerbaijanis celebrated their sacred religious holidays, including Ramadan, under conditions of conflict, with over a million refugees and internally displaced persons. He mentioned the destruction of mosques and sacred sites during the 30-year Armenian occupation.

The Chairman highlighted that the Victory achieved by the Azerbaijani people five years ago also restored freedom to the mosques under occupation, allowing the call to prayer to echo once again from mosques in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur.

Ali Erbash, President of the Directorate for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, praised the organization of the iftar ceremony, emphasizing the importance of gathering for heartfelt conversations during this holy month. He wished peace, security, and progress to the entire Muslim world and prayed for the acceptance of all acts of worship. Following Ramadan prayers, the iftar table was opened for participants.
