The Global Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders is being held

The Global Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders on the theme "World Religions for a Green Planet" is being held under the initiative and patronage of President Ilham Aliyev, within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, the International Council of Muslim Elders, the Office of Caucasian Muslims and the UN Environment Program. 
First, the address of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the participants of the Global Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders was read. The address was voiced by Ali Asadov, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade greeted the participants of the Summit and expressed his gratitude to all the guests.
Then there was a video address by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. He said that the activities of religious leaders are important for promoting climate change measures and achieving climate justice.
The high representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Angel Moratinos, emphasized the importance of the high level of cooperation between the organization he represents and Azerbaijan. He talked about the importance of solidarity in overcoming climate change and environmental crises.
Muhammad Abdulsalam Abdullatif, Secretary General of the International Council of Muslim Elders, noted that important steps have been taken to eliminate the negative effects of climate change using the role of religious leaders, which is an indicator of the high level of interreligious dialogue.
Speaking at the summit, Mukhtar Babayev, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, appointed President of COP29, said that Azerbaijan has put forward the "COP29 - Climate and Peace" Initiative in order to expand the dialogue with the communities most affected by the effects of climate change. In addition, the Water for Climate Action initiative launched by the COP29 Presidency aims to adopt integrated approaches to reduce the impacts of climate change on watersheds and strengthen adaptation measures in national climate policies.
Ali Erbaş, the chairman of the Religious Affairs Department of Turkey, said that the outlook on life that separates people from the purpose of existence and makes them dependent on the environment leads the world to disasters, and environmental problems on a global scale threaten not only people, but the entire ecological system.
Cardinal Claudio Gucerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for Eastern Church Affairs of the Holy See, spoke about the importance of the event and said that it is commendable that religious leaders, representatives of various organizations and religions come together and discuss a very important issue. This measure is designed to protect our planet.
Minister of Endowments of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Osama Elsayed Saad, stressed that government representatives around the world should act as an example in the direction of environmental protection.
Ravil Gaynutdin, Chairman of the Religious Department of the Muslims of the Russian Federation, praised the measures taken to protect the environment and spoke about the importance of religious leaders acting together to solve the climate problem.
Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, said that the message of the Global Baku Summit of Religious Leaders will be extremely important for overcoming future threats. He noted that part of this message may be a call to the subjects of the international relations system. Because states and international organizations need to work harder to reduce the consequences of global warming.
Muzaffar Kamilov, State Adviser to the President of Uzbekistan on Relations with Public and Religious Institutions, emphasized that large-scale projects and serious works are being carried out in our region in order to eliminate the climate crisis. The Global Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders, held within the framework of environmental protection and protection, should be commended.
At the same time, within the framework of the summit, appeals of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia, His Excellency Abdullatif Al-Sheikh, Minister of Saudi Endowments, and His Excellency Muhammad Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Islamic World League, to the Global Summit of Religious Leaders have been read.
Religious leaders of Egypt, Turkey, Greece and other countries spoke about the importance of religious calls in the fight against climate change and environmental problems.
It should be noted that religious leaders from about 30 countries, heads of influential religious centers representing 55 countries and 30 international organizations - patriarchs, Vatican and Al-Azhar officials, representatives of various continents, confessions and the world - attended the summit held in the Gulustan Palace. well-known religious and public figures are participating. At the same time, it is planned to visit the territories liberated from Armenian occupation by foreign guests.
