On 30 October, Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, met with Safi Arpagush, President of the Directorate for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan and Türkiye share deep-rooted fraternal relations, and that the political will of both heads of state provides a strong foundation for further cooperation.
Chairman Mammadov sincerely congratulated Safi Arpagush on his appointment as the President of the Directorate for Religious Affairs and expressed confidence that religious cooperation between the two brotherly countries would further expand.
The Chairman highlighted that under President Ilham Aliyev, the preservation and promotion of Azerbaijan’s national and spiritual values, cultural heritage, and traditions are key priorities. This policy ensures a secure guarantee of freedom of belief in the country. He noted that mutual understanding and effective collaboration among religious communities have been further strengthened, leading to the development of a unique and successful model of state–religion relations that align with the principles of a secular state. This model plays a significant role in providing state support for religious communities, implementing comprehensive initiatives in religious education, and addressing contemporary challenges effectively.
Safi Arpagush underscored that the existing fraternal and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye offers broad opportunities for deeper cooperation in all fields. He emphasized the importance of continuing mutual exchanges in religious education, awareness-raising, and training.
The discussions also addressed the implementation of projects in multiculturalism and tolerance, joint actions to combat religious radicalism and extremism, and the enhancement of scientific and educational cooperation between the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology and the Turkish Diyanet Academy.
The meeting was attended by Rashad Mammadov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Türkiye.
