EU Ambassador briefed on religious tolerance in Azerbaijan

Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, met with Marijana Kujundžić, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to the country.

Ramin Mammadov congratulated Marijana Kujundžić on her appointment and wished her success in enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU.

Mammadov briefed the EU official on the Azerbaijani state policy based on multiculturalism, ensuring the religious freedoms and the projects aimed at developing the religious education.

According to him, the initiatives implemented in the religious area under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev demonstrate that equal conditions have been created for all religious and ethnic minorities in the country, and that the Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the preservation of their historical and cultural heritage.

Marijana Kujundžić noted that promoting Azerbaijan’s model of coexistence is of particular significance in putting an end to the religious conflicts, a cornerstone of the existing global security challenge. She also expressed her readiness to support the projects aimed at boosting the Azerbaijan-EU ties.

The meeting also addressed prospects for religious cooperation.
