The Chairman provided detailed information about Azerbaijan’s traditions of coexistence and interfaith harmony, emphasizing that values such as multiculturalism and tolerance are integral to Azerbaijani society. He noted that there are 995 registered religious communities in the country—957 Islamic and 38 non-Islamic—highlighting Azerbaijan as one of the few states offering comprehensive support, including financial assistance, to religious organizations.
The Chairman further stressed that, based on the principle of the rule of law, freedom of religion and belief is well protected in Azerbaijan. In all regions, including those liberated from occupation, historical Islamic monuments, mosques, and pilgrimage sites are being preserved and restored alongside Christian and Jewish places of worship.
Commission Chairman Steven Schneck expressed gratitude for the warm reception and provided information about the Commission. He highlighted the registration of the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” in Azerbaijan and praised the favorable conditions created for the Jehovah's Witnesses community.
During the meeting, the questions from the Commission representatives regarding the state of religious freedom in Azerbaijan were addressed.
