05 December 2025, 13:50

On December 5, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations Ramin Mammadov met with Christian Kamill, the newly appointed Special Envoy (Ambassador) for Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden.

Congratulating the guest on his appointment, Chairman Mammadov provided information on Azerbaijan’s centuries-old traditions of peaceful coexistence and the conditions created for the harmonious activity of various religious denominations. He noted that as a result of the successful policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, multiculturalism has become a key priority of state policy, positioning Azerbaijan as a global leader in interfaith dialogue. Alongside the restoration and construction of mosques, churches and synagogues, religious communities, including Christian ones, receive regular financial support. Chairman Mammadov emphasized that this approach has fostered an environment of mutual respect and cooperation among all confessions in the country.

Christian Kamill highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s role and support in promoting multicultural values, highlighting the significance of the state’s leadership in this area for establishing peace and mutual understanding globally. He stressed that dialogue is essential for ensuring peace and stability in the modern world and described Azerbaijan’s experience as exemplary.

The meeting, also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Azerbaijan Tobias Lorentzson, included discussions on opportunities for experience-sharing, bilateral cooperation, and the implementation of joint projects in relevant fields.
