Clergymen from Poland have visited Azerbaijan
Delegation led by Wojciech Bartkowicz, Rector of the Metropolitan Major Priest Seminary in Warsaw has visited our country in order to get familiar with the religious solidarity and tolerance environment, Christian and Albanian temples in Azerbaijan as well as Polish heritage and community on September 7th. The visit has been organized by the State Committee on Religious Associations, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Poland and "Word of Life" the Christian religious community and the visit will last by September 14th.
On September 7, the delegation visited Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). The visitors met with scientists studying Azerbaijan-Poland relations including scientific relations after getting acquainted with the administrative building of the Presidium of ANAS. Academician Arif Hashimov, acting president of ANAS, Isa Habibbeyli, vice-president of ANAS, as well as Azerbaijani scientists studying Polish-Azerbaijani literary relations took part in the meeting.
Later, the delegation visited the Catholic church of the "Virgin Mary's Immaculate Conception” in Baku and got acquainted with the prayer hall and administrative building. The guests were given detailed information about the history and activities of Catholicism in our country, and the state's support for the community. The visitors also got detailed information on National Leader Heydar Aliyev's attitude to the Catholic Christian religious community with highest attention and care, successful continuation of this policy by President Ilham Aliyev. First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva’s special attention and care to the Catholic community was emphasized during the visit.
On September 8, the guests payed a visit to the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church (Armenian) in Baku and were informed about the history of the temple and the measures taken by the state to preserve it. The foundation of the tradition of tolerance in Azerbaijan has been laid since ancient times. Azerbaijan has always respected other nations and religions from the earliest stages of history. And this attitude has not changed in recent times, but it has deepened further. It was informed that thousands of books in the Armenian language are kept in the church. By the decision of 2001 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Saint Gregory Church has been included in the list of “National Registration of Historical Monuments in Azerbaijan” as an immovable monument of history and culture of local significance.
