Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mubariz Gurbanli met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Sami Abdullah Ghosheh.

During the meeting the chairman mentioned that cooperation between our countries has historical roots, those relations have been further strengthened due to the sincere fraternal relations between President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and King Abdullah II of Jordan. Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has repeatedly supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as a member state of Non-aligned Movement and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Mr. Gurbanli informed the guest about exemplary state-religion relations in Azerbaijan, the activity of the committee that he is leading. The area of religion is under constant attention and special care in Azerbaijan, successful policy implemented by the state is directed to the protection of freedom of religious belief, creating equal opportunities for all religious communities in the country, further strengthening of the centuries-old tradition of tolerance, national and moral values of our people in the country, the chairman drew to the attention of the ambassador.

Speaking about the Historical victory of Azerbaijan Mubariz Gurbanli stressed that our army liberated our lands from Armenian occupation under diplomatic skills and focused policy of President Ilham Aliyev. He also stressed that our historical and religious sites in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia for about 30 years have also been looted and destroyed. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, who has always been sensitive to the preservation and restoration of historical, cultural and religious monuments, has already launched a project to restore those monuments.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Azerbaijan Sami Abdullah Ghosheh noted that National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the late Jordanian leader King Hussein laid the foundation of friendship between our peoples and these relations are being successfully continued by the current heads of state. Emphasizing his country’s support for the just position of Azerbaijan the diplomat mentioned that he expressed deep regret over the vandalism committed in the liberated Fuzuli region during the visit with the heads of the diplomatic corps in Azerbaijan and said that the destruction of entire infrastructure, houses, historical and cultural sites, cemeteries was unacceptable.

Books which published by the SCRA in English and Arabic on the environment of religious tolerance in Azerbaijan and the Armenian vandalism against our material and cultural heritage were presented to the guest at the end of the meeting that other issues of mutual interest were under discussion.
