On November 15, Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SCRA), Mubariz Gurbanlı met with Mahmoud Al Habbash, Advisor to the President of the State of Palestine on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations and Supreme Judge of Shareia Courts of the State of Palestine,
Speaking about the state religion relations, peaceful coexistence of different confessions and ethnic groups, the tradition of multiculturalism and tolerance, Mr. Mubariz Gurbanli noted the consistent policy in order to further strengthen these traditions is being pursued under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and financial aid has been allocated to religious communities for their development by the state.
Mubariz Gurbanli stressed that as the result of successful state policy aimed at the preservation of ethnic diversity in Azerbaijan, formed historical tradition of multiculturalism and tolerance has strengthened. In recent years, Azerbaijan has become a space where intercultural dialogue on a global level, the interaction of world cultures and civilizations
Speaking about efforts to fight religious radicalism, the SCRA chairman noted that radical religious groups operating under the name of religion are threat to all societies. Emphasizing the significant issues has been done in this direction he also touched upon the importance of establishing peace and stability in the world, creating a dialogue and cooperation environment, as well as the importance of sharing experience and expanding cooperation among countries.
Advisor to the President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Al Habbash noted that Azerbaijani experience and traditions about multiculturalism and tolerance is internationally recognized and highly valued. Emphasizing the ever-expanding ties between Azerbaijan and Palestine, he said that special attention is paid to religious enlightenment in Palestine, enlightenment works in this direction are being carried out to prevent people from being exposed to religious radicalism. He also stressed that it is of great importance for ensuring the security of the community.
The meeting which was also attended by Nasser A. Kareem Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Azerbaijan, both sides exchanged views on the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation and further deepening of religious relations between Azerbaijan and Palestine, as well as the importance of sharing experience and expanding cooperation in this area.
