June 7, the Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations (SCRA) Mubariz Gurbanli met with the delegation of the “Nahdlatul Ulama”, non-governmental organization in Indonesia.

The delegation includes heads of the managing Committee of the organization, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Azerbaijan Hildi Hamid.

The meeting aimed to get acquainted with Azerbaijan’s religious policy and exchange experience in this field.

SCRA Chairman has said that relations between the two countries are at a high level emphasizing Indonesia has always supported the documents adopted by international organizations, concerning the condemnation of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan and protection of our territorial integrity. Mr. Gurbanli has expressed the work done in the direction of joint activities within Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Azerbaijan’s just position of the liberation of our lands during the 44-day Patriotic War has been supported.

The guests were informed about Azerbaijan’s state and religion model, care of the state to religious faiths, incuding the work done on the development of interreligious and intercultural dialogue.

As a continuation of national leader of our people Heydar Aliyev’s far-sighted policy in Azerbaijan, a lot have been done in the field of protection of our national and moral values, strengthening respect for Islam and further development of tolerance environment. President Ilham Aliyev has signed a number of orders and decrees concerning the repair and restoration of historical and architectural monuments, places of worship of various religious faiths, provision of financial assistance to religious communities, - the Chairman has stressed.

The Chairman of the Committee has underlined the establishment of the Foundation for Promotion of Moral Values and the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology under the SCRA and the importance of those far-sighted steps in terms of preservation and development of religious and spiritual environment in Azerbaijan.

Mr. Gurbanli has touched the activities of the State Committee, adding successful cooperation has been build with relevant agencies of most Muslim countries. With regard to the work done in the area of combating radicalism, the Chairman indicated that hundreds of books had been published, including documentaries, video footages and television programmes had been made. Deputy Chairman of the managing committee of the organization Dr. Zulfa Mustofa gave information about the organization he represents, adding there are around 100 million members of the organization and is considered to be the largest Islamic organization worldwide. The guest has stressed Azerbaijan’s valuable contribution to the promotion of Universal Human Values and solution of global problems through its proposals and initiatives, at the same time highly appreciated the activity of Azerbaijan in the relevant sphere as well as importance of studying the experience and mutual visits.

Then, members of the delegation were presented books published by the State Committee.
