A meeting was held at the State Committee

Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations Sayavush Heydarov received Jonathan Hayes, Political Chief of the Embassy of the United States in Azerbaijan on January 29th.

Speaking about inter-religious and inter-ethnic harmony in Azerbaijan being example of tolerance for the whole world, Sayavush Heydarov stressed that the state implements successful policy in the area of religion, guarantees religious freedom at the highest level. The Republic of Azerbaijan creates necessary conditions for all religious communities, the state renders material and moral support for them.

“Azerbaijan has become a driving force in combating negative tendencies, such as xenophobia and islamophobia aimed at ensuring security in the area of religion. Armenia's attempts have failed to present the conflict at the level of inter-religious confrontation amid Patriotic war which led to the liberation of our lands from occupation. Armenia’s desire to exaggerate religious factor was condemned by religous confessions in Azerbaijan and worldwide. The Patriotic War clearly demonstrated the inviolability of religious and national solidarity in our country,” Mr. Heydarov mentioned.

Deputy Chairman noted the positive sign that Azerbaijan was NOT included in the list of the countries of “Particular concern” or “Watch List” in the 2020 annual report released by U.S. Department of State based on recommendation by the U.S. Secretary of State and considered among the countries that guarantees religious freedom.

Political Chief of the Embassy Jonathan Hayes underlined that he witnessed the environment that Azerbaijan has created for the representatives of all religions to enjoy equal rights which U.S. Department of States highly appreciates.
