On July 8, the State Committee on Religious Associations held a meeting with a delegation of the Sinai synagogue situated in California, USA. Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations Mubariz Gurbanli welcomed the guests and gave detailed information about the religious situation in the country, noted that tolerance and multiculturalism have very solid foundation and rich historical traditions in our country. Gurbanli noted that 940 religious communities including 33 non-Islamic religious communities were registered in the country and 96% of the population are consist of muslims. Along with the muslims in our country people of other religions live in mutual understanding, good neighborliness and tranquility. The chairman of the committee said that though Azerbaijan is the secular state, religious confessions were always covered by the state's attention and care. Apart from mosques, churches and synagogues are also being renovated by the state, and new ones are built. Every year, the president allocates funds to support the activities of religious confessions. All these issues show once again that the traditions of tolerance and multiculturalism have risen to the level of state policy in our country. A member of the delegation, Yomtovian Aysak, said that he has extensive knowledge about Azerbaijan, so that the multicultural and tolerant atmosphere are dominated all over the country, representatives of different cultures and religions and ethnic minorities live in mutual respect. Reminding that members of Sinai synagogue have repeatedly visited Azerbaijan, Yomtovian Aysak said that they returned with very high impressions from Azerbaijan and he emphasized that the Azerbaijani model promotes the coexistence of nations and religions in the world where diversity is widespread and Azerbaijan is differed from others with its uniqueness. He said that the pay great attention to close friendships with Azerbaijan. The members of the delegation expressed their gratitude to the Chairman of the State Committee for the sincere reception at the meeting held in the atmosphere of mutual respect and sincerity. At the end of the meeting, the guests were given the books published in English on Armenian vandalism against our cultural heritage and the religious tolerance in our country.
