September 30, Muslim and non-Muslim religious communities in our country visited Shusha, organized by the State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
“Apostolic Prefecture of the Catholic Church in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, Baku-Azerbaijan Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, Baku Mountain Jewish, European Jews, “Azerbaijan Bible Society”, “Seventh-day Adventist”, “Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran”, “Baku City New Apostle”, “Agape” of Evangelical Baptists of Christ, “ Greater Grace”, “Alov” (Flame) “Vineyard Azerbaijan”, “Hare Krishna” and “Bahai” including several Muslim communities were involved in the visit.
The clergymen have visited the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque and the Gazanchi Church. Memory of the sons of the Motherland, who sacrified their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated and were prayed for the mercy of God and prayers were read for their souls. The visitors were informed on construction of a new mosque in Shusha, the history of places of worship, undergone destruction, the repair and restoration works being carried out.
The founder of the “New Generation Church” of Latvia Alexey Ledyaev who participated in the visit, got acquainted with the cultural capital of Azerbaijan and expressed regret over the scale of the Armenian vandalism committed against the historical, religious and cultural sites during the occupation.
The clergymen who have witnessed the destruction and vandalism of Armenians during their visit to Karabakh, highly valued restoration of historical appearance of Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, restoration of religious places of worship by the Foundation under the leadership of the First Vice-President of our country, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva which were heavily damaged by Armenian vandalism and falsification. As a clear indication of the importance attached to multicultural values, the restoration of the Kazanchi Church in accordance with its original artistic and aesthetic appearance on the basis of historical documents and archival materials within the “The Great Return” was emphasized.
The trip to Shusha ended with a visit to the Jidir Duzu and Museum Mausoleum Complex of Molla Panah Vagif.
