Committee Chairman meets the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Azerbaijan

On February 8, Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations (State Committee) Mubariz Gurbanli has met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Azerbaijan Vasile Soare.

Drawing attention to the historical ties between the peoples of Romania and Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the State Committee Mubariz Gurbanli has emphasized that the relations successfully continue in all spheres. Providing detailed information on the activities of the State Committee, the religious situation, state-religious relations, the state’s support for religion in Azerbaijan, the Committee Chairman Mubariz Gurbanli has said that Azerbaijan is a home to churches and synagogues along with mosques, representatives of various confessions perform freely and in a spirit of mutual understanding. The state constantly provides financial assistance to Islamic and non-Islamic religious communities.

Mr. Gurbanli has informed the Ambassador on the progress on the restoration and reconstruction of our historical and religious sites vandalized by the Armenians on our liberated territories following the brilliant victory in the 44-day Patriotic War led by the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The Chairman has said that Azerbaijani state is equally sensitive to the restoration of Islamic as well as non-Islamic sites.

Azerbaijan is considered one of the countries around world that can be an example for the protection and development of tolerance, multiculturalism, national and spiritual values, our countries are similar in terms of paying attention to the tolerant and multicultural values, the Chairman has stressed.

The Ambassador Vasile Soaren has expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and satisfaction with the fact that Romania has constantly supported Azerbaijan's just position against the Armenian aggression, its territorial integrity in international organizations and bilateral relations. Azerbaijan’s liberation of its territories from occupation was the most significant development, he has said.

The Ambassador has stressed the importance that Azerbaijan hosts events aiming at the implementation of the significant international projects and the promoting dialogue among cultures and civilizations. Vasile Soaren has said that Azerbaijan and Romania are friendly countries and as an ambassador has drawn to the attention that he expresses interest in active work on issues such as cultural diversity, tolerance and multiculturalism between the two countries in his activity.

The sides also exchanged views on the possibilities for further expansion of relations on religious sphere, as well as on other issues of mutual interest.

The guest was presented books about tolerance and multiculturalism published in English by the State Committee.
