On December 22, the participants of the Forum of Azerbaijan Clergymen, organized by the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, on the theme "Actual issues of religious education: tradition, experience and perspectives", visited the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology (AIT).
During the meeting, rector Agil Shirinov informed the participants of the forum about the activities of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology. He said that education at the undergraduate level of the Institute, which was established by the Decree of the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev dated February 9, 2018, is carried out in the specialties of "Islamic Studies" and "Religious Studies". Students are taught multiculturalism, history of Azerbaijan, philosophy, logic, as well as Arabic and English, in addition to specialized subjects. The rector, who also gave information about the master's and doctoral education levels of AIT, added that one of the main goals of the higher education institution is to conduct research in order to ensure the correct delivery of religion to the public, to monitor the needs of the society in the field of religion, and to offer solutions to the problems that arise.
Deputy Chairman of the State Committee, Gunduz Ismayilov, informed the clergy about the establishment and activities of the Baku Theological College under the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology. Highlighting the activity of AIT graduates in the competition held by the committee regarding the appointment of clerics to places of worship and sanctuaries related to the Islamic religion, the deputy chairman reminded that they worked as imams, deputy imams and performers of religious rites in different regions of our country.
Forum participants got acquainted with the conditions created for students at the Institute and College.
The meeting ended with the discussion of issues of mutual interest.
