April 17, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations (SCRA) Sayavush Heydarov met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Association “The Word of Life” Christian Åkerhielm.

Welcoming the guest, the Deputy Chairman of the SCRA has informed the guest about interfaith harmony, coexistence in Azerbaijan and its significance, brought to the attention that as a result of the successful state policy in the religious sphere, the values of tolerance finds confirmation in public life, religious diversity.

Mr. Heydarov has expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness in terms of sharing its experience in this sphere and emphasized that peace and tranquility should be seen as a strategic objective by the world community by demonstrating united will and decisive actions should be taken against Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia and religious discrimination. And the religious communities of “Word of Life” have actively involved in the life of the society.

Christian Åkerhielm who had visited Azerbaijan for the first time in 1994, expressed his admiration for the dynamic development in Baku, the capital city. The guest has underlined Azerbaijan’s active involvement in the expansion of interreligious dialogue on a global scale, atmosphere of tolerance that reflects religious landscape of the country. The guest also spoke about his participation in the holly Easter that was celebrated yesterday in our republic and highly appreciated the care and protection of non-Muslim religious communities.
