February 24, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations Sayavush Heydarov met with Senior Pastor of the South Carolina, Baptist Church Gateway Don Brock and Senior Pastor of North Trenholm Baptist Church Casey Williams.

Azerbaijan’s exemplary model of relations amongst state and religion, freedom of conscience, interreligious harmony, mutual respect and cooperation based on trust between different religions and confessions were discussed in the meeting. The conditions created for non-Muslim religious communities, including Baptist ones, the State’s care and support for religious denominations were the subject of discussion.

Speaking about historical traditions of tolerance in Azerbaijan, the visitors emphasized attention paid in the country to various religious faiths as an exemplary model for the entire world. The guests have noted the spirit of solidarity that prevails countrywide and the importance attached to the Baptist communities which could serve as a model for the world as well.

Exchange of views on a number of issues of mutual interest was held at the end of the meeting and the guests were presented books published by the State Committee in English about religious tolerance in our country.
