On December 23, the Forum of the Azerbaijan Religiuos figures on topic "Religious Awareness Awareness: Tradition, Experiences and Prospects" completed its work.
The discussions were held in the panel sessions in the forum dedicated to the topics "Religious threats in a secular state: the role of religious and ideological reviews", "The role of the religious factor in the implementation of women's rights", "Azerbaijani multiculturalism: experience, tradition and modern challenges" and "Religious education models in a secular state: theory and practice".
More than 100 religious figures from different regions of our republic, leaders of Islamic and non-Islamic religious communities participated in the Forum, which was held in order to inform the society on religious threats, increasing the role of religious figures in the process of religious awareness, as well as the activities of religious communities and religious figures, to learn opinions and suggestions about the difficulties they faced.
At the end of the forum, discussions were concluded with the participation of moderators of the panels.
Fazil Mustafa, Chairman of the Committee of Public Associations of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, said that the existing tolerance and multicultural values in Azerbaijan shows absence of any threat to the religious level today. However, the events in the world show that even conflicts in the neighboring country may have a negative impact on the lives of people living in a wide range of geography. Therefore, we must think about the prevention of threats created by radical tendencies and repel it on account of the strength of society as a whole.
Moderator of the II panel, Aynur Sofiyeva, deputy chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children of Republic of Azerbaijan, spoke about the successes achieved in the field of ensuring women's rights in Azerbaijan. As a result of the discussions, along with the steps taken to protect women's rights throughout history, she said that there are also a number of shortcomings. In particular, she spoke about the tasks ahead in the direction of protecting our national and moral values.
The moderator of the III panel, executive director of Baku International Multiculturalism Center Ravan Hasanov, noted that useful discussions were held at the Forum. He said that the importance of scientific and spiritual harmony of multiculturalism, interesting suggestions about ways to protect multicultural and tolerant values against the background of modern innovations were voiced at the event.
The moderator of the IV panel, Rector of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, Agil Shirinov, said that when talking about religious education in a secular state, it should be specially noted that it is organized by the state. Because only in this case, the balance between religious freedom and secularism can be maintained. When talking about the traditional and modern religious education methods, it should be noted that the modern religious education model ensures the adaptation of traditional religious knowledge to the needs of modern society and the realities of the global world. Moreover, the modern model of religious education responds to the challenges of the times and promotes spiritual and intellectual development. This approach helps to realize the role of religion in society in a more positive and constructive way.
Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, said that attempts to change perceptions of religion based on false postulates, attempts to present religious differences as a cause of conflict between civilizations and cultures do not serve the interests of any nation. He noted that the differences between religions and sects should be a unifying line, not a dividing line. R. Mammadov spoke about the importance of religious education being one of the priority areas of ideological work and propaganda in all societies. He emphasized that detailed discussions were held at the forum in order to solve the problems in the field of religious education, and that the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations was ready to take all the necessary steps within its powers to contribute to this process.
In the end, an appeal to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev was accepted on behalf of the Forum participants.
