Azerbaijan–Georgia Cooperation in the field of religion discussed

The delegation of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations of Azerbaijan visited Tbilisi and met with Zaza Vashakmadze, Head of the State Agency for Religious Affairs of Georgia.

The meeting focused on the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the religious sphere, the exchange of experiences, and future areas of joint activity. It was emphasized that the historically established relations of friendship and good neighborliness between the two countries continue to thrive in the field of religion.

Zaza Vashakmadze discussed the activities of religious communities in both countries, as well as the promotion of religious tolerance and multicultural values, noting that such visits significantly strengthen bilateral cooperation in this area.

The Deputy Chairman of the State Committee stressed the importance of discussing joint initiatives and projects aimed at developing relations in the religious field, in line with the spirit of bilateral relations. S. Naghiyev emphasized that state-religion relations in Azerbaijan are built on solid foundations, with all religious communities provided with the necessary legal and institutional support. He highlighted the state’s continuous backing for religious communities and noted that the restoration and protection of mosques, churches, and synagogues reflect this policy. The Deputy Chairman also underlined Azerbaijan’s recognition as a model country in the fields of multiculturalism and religious tolerance, stressing the importance of implementing activities pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the State Committee of Azerbaijan and Georgia’s State Agency for Religious Affairs.

The meeting was attended by Faig Guliyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Georgia, Agil Shirinov, Rector of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, and Salman Musayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board.
