Chairman of the Committee met with the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania

On March 4, as part of a visit to Romania, the delegation led by Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, met with Silviu Veksler, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities.

President Silviu Veksler provided insights into the history and culture of the Jewish community in Romania. He positively assessed the active participation of Jewish communities in public life in Azerbaijan, emphasizing their existence in an environment free from antisemitism and characterized by tolerance. He highlighted the importance of promoting Azerbaijan’s unique model of religious tolerance and coexistence.

Chairman Mammadov spoke about measures implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to strengthen tolerance and promote interfaith and intercultural dialogue in Azerbaijan. He emphasized the extensive opportunities available for the Jewish community, as with other religious groups, to preserve their traditions, language, and culture. He noted that there are currently eight registered Jewish religious communities in Azerbaijan with seven active synagogues and operational Jewish schools and kindergartens.

The meeting was also attended by Gudsi Osmanov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Romania. Following the meeting, the delegation visited a synagogue in Bucharest.
