Iftar ceremony organized in Tbilisi for Azerbaijani compatriots living in Georgia

On 17 March, the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, together with the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia and the affiliated Foundation for the Promotion of Spiritual Values, organized an iftar ceremony in Tbilisi.

The event was attended by representatives of Azerbaijani and Georgian institutions, heads of local executive authorities, representatives of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Georgia, religious leaders, and community members.

Faiq Guliyev, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Georgia, congratulated participants on Ramadan and emphasized Azerbaijan’s significant role in supporting Islamic values and solidarity, noting that religious tolerance is deeply embedded in the country’s way of life. He also highlighted the importance of the iftar in demonstrating solidarity and fostering friendship and cooperation.

Chairman Ramin Mammadov stressed the longstanding friendship and fraternal relations between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Georgia. He noted that the wise policies of the  leaders of both countries have ensured state security and successful socio-economic development. He also commended the integration of Azerbaijani compatriots into Georgian society and the conditions created to guarantee their religious freedom, expressing confidence that such events strengthen bonds of friendship and shared values.

Zaza Vashakmadze, Chair of the State Agency for Religious Affairs of Georgia, noted that both Azerbaijan and Georgia are home to diverse peoples and religions living together in brotherhood and neighborly relations. He stated that the iftar ceremonies in Rustavi and Tbilisi were exemplary of successful dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect.

Arzu Naghiyev, Chairman of the Committee on Defense, Security, and Anti-Corruption of the Milli Mejlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan, highlighted the exemplary economic, social, and political nature of cooperation between the two countries.

Agil Shirinov, Rector of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, informed participants about the Institute’s activities and its effective cooperation with religious educational institutions in Georgia.

Adam Shantadze, Mufti of Western Georgia of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Georgia, emphasized the importance of the iftar initiative for solidarity, friendship, and benevolence, and spoke about the significance of improving religious cooperation between the two countries.

After Ramadan prayers by Vidadi Gurbanov, and a Qur’an recitation by Jalal Jafarli, the iftar table was opened for all participants.
